Can There Be Success Without Gratitude?

Developing an attitude of gratitude.

Developing an Attitude of Gratitude!

Hmm, I wonder.

I’ve been reading quite a bit about “developing an attitude of gratitude” lately.

Taking things for granted is never a good thing.

Have you ever noticed that when you loose something you suddenly (and sometimes painfully) notice its value to you?

I try hard not to take anything for granted, but this morning when I sat down on my computer I noticed that I had taken for granted the very things that are KEY to my business success.

Here are just a few things I had totally taken for granted …

  • My computer
The very first thing I do every morning after getting out of bed is turn on my computer. Without even thinking about it, I expectit to turn on and to hear that familiar humming sound.I never gave thought to the many people who were involved in creating the parts and putting it together. Nor have I ever thought of the genius who was able to figure out that a bunch of zeros and ones somehow could make a computer in the first place.
  • The Internet
Again, I totally expectit to appear as soon as I log in. Should it go out (usually right in the middle of me working on something – like would you believe it – right now as I am writing this) I kick and scream (sometimes) and get very upset. The internet is the life line to my customers, my team members and prospects, my online friends … well to basically everything. It’s the heart beat of my business. Without it I am dead in the water.
  • Email
I took it for granted (until right now) that I can send an email to someone half-way around the world in seconds and that I can get a response back just as quickly.
  • Skype
I can call friends, family and prospects all over the world and don’t have to pay a penny to do so (if I call from computer to computer) or very little if I call from computer to a land line or cell phone.
  • The Telephone
The ultimate credit goes to Alexander Graham Bell for inventing it in the first place. But look how far we have come since then. I’m not tied to a wall phone but can call people from anywhere and can be reached anywhere with a cell phone or mobile phone.

Someone had to invent all these tools I’m using on a daily basis to build my network marketing business.

Someone had to make all this possible. But have I ever thought about those people or thought about giving thanks to them? If I’m really honest … no, not really. I’ve totally taken all that for granted.

So here today is my official expression of gratitude to everyone who has anything to do with me building my online business. Thank you for making this possible for me!

The only ‘thing’ I haven’t taken for granted are you, my readers. I truly appreciate you stopping by and reading my posts and leaving me your thoughts. Thank you so much!

So again my question … Can there be success without gratitude?

In my opinion, no, there can’t be success without gratitute. Because expressing gratitude for the things you have opens yourself up to receiving more. And the power of gratitude goes a very long way.

What are your thoughts?

To your success,

Ilka Flood

Hey Ilka,

I think it is great that you even took the time to think about this subject, never mind turn it into a post.

It is so true, we have everything at our finger tips. Look what happens to people when the power gets turned off.

Remember the black out of 2003? I was on shift that night with the fire dept. In my city we were only down for about 14 hrs and people were losing their minds. For the first time in most of their lives they realized how much they took electricity for granted.

To answer your question, “can there be success without gratitude?” Sure there can, but not for very long ;)

Really cool post Ilka!

Hi Carl,

You brought up a great point … electricity. I actually should have started off with that one. Because without electricity nothing goes. See, how I took that one for granted??? Wow!

We are so used to flip a switch or press a button and voilà. Geez, how could I forget that one. Thanks for the reminder.

Have an awesome day!

Ilka

P.S. And yes, you’re right, without gratitude success won’t last long.

Hey Ilka

Gratitude is very important. It is the was the 1st attribute I spoke about in my Art Of Leadership series.

http://dwaynehuggins.com/the-art-of-true-leadership-part-1.html

I am grateful everyday for what I have and what I am capable of acquiring.

In life it does get easy to become ungrateful, but if you keep an eye on it your appreciation for things greatly increase.

I think that it’s critical to have gratitude for the things that you have. It makes you appreciate them more and makes you work to hold onto them more.

Success without gratitude is just an empty hole. It’s like trying to run a small business without any customers.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for taking time out of your busy day and stopping by to leave your thoughts!

I agree, “success without gratitude is just an empty hole”. There is no happiness without gratitude either.

Have an awesome day and know that I appreciate you!

Hi Ilka,

I don’t think you can have TRUE success without being grateful for what you have first.

Sure, you can have material success, but not happiness or contentment.

Have a great day, my inspirational Guru!

Hey Ilka,

Interesting point here. You are right, we do need to always remember not to take these things for granted.

Lets face it, we would be lost without them.

Thanks for this,

Hi Wayne,

No kidding! Indeed we would be so lost. Just imagine for some reason we would lose electricity tomorrow – for good – what in the world would we do?

How different would our business be? I don’t even want to think about it. It would be an absolute nightmare.

However, haven’t we been expecting for the past 100 years or so to flip a switch and there it was?

Really makes you think, doesn’t it?

Hey, thanks for stopping by Wayne and leaving your thoughts! I truly appreciate you!!

Have an awesome night!

Hi Ilka,

Being grateful is so important. In order to ever receive, we must appreciate what we do have.

That’s how the law of cause and effect works.

Great post. I love this stuff!

Hi Ilka,

Life even looks prettier with gratitude.

I used to take the internet for granted… till we moved here and have now experienced Alice Springs internet… I’m thankful I have it, and I’m especially thankful the days it works!

I hear you on being grateful. The first thing I do each morning is reflect on the things I’m thankful for. Say a little prayer of thanksgiving. It just makes my day so much brighter…

Love the topic!

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Susanna,

Oh, I can’t even imagine being in your situation. And then again, yes, I can.

We went to my husband’s home town in Oklahoma last summer for his mom’s funeral. Very tiny town and of course his mom didn’t have internet so we had to go to the library to check and send emails. What an experience!

Thank you for stopping over and leaving your thoughts! You are so appreciated, Susanna!!

Have an incredible weekend!

Years ago I saw an Oprah show on keeping a gratitude journal, long before it became a hot topic. I have done so ever since, probably going on 7 years now. What it does is focus one on what one does have and I don’t only refer to material things here. This allows one to receive infinitely more so yes gratitude has everything to do with success.

Any success without gratitude is swallow and short lived. An appreciation for what we have is a building block to more success.

Unfortunately, It usually takes a lose of something or someone to bring us to gratitude.

Great post Ilka!

Hi Ilka,

wow, how powerful. The list of little (or even big) things we take for granted could go on and on and on. What about the powers supply, clean tap water, our breakfast we enjoy in the morning etc.

Thanks for a great reminder !

Take care

Hi Oliver,

Absolutely! Clean tap water is a little (BIG) thing that we often take for granted. Just about most of the tings we see when we look around us we take for granted.

Have an awesome weekend, Oliver!
