Unfriend Finder Lets You Know When Someone Unfriends You on Facebook

Have you ever wondered if people find out when you “unfriend someone” in Facebook?
Personally, I haven’t been too concerned about this, because I rarely use the Facebook unfriend option. But it seems to be a very popular question because it often shows up as a search query on my blog. Just today I had several people ask, …
“Will friend know if I unsubscribe them — unsubscribe facebook find out – does facebook tell friend if you unsubscribe – does someone know if I unsubscribe them”
And I get those queries on a regular basis.
So I went to Facebook and did a search for it in the “Help” section but couldn’t come up with an answer. Guess Facebook isn’t too eager to volunteer answers to questions about how to unfriend someone.
Then the funniest thing happened. As I was updating my Buffer app with more great information for my Twitter Followers the answer popped right up in form of a great article on Mashable.
There is actually a browser extension called “Unfriend Finder.” Wouldn’t you know?
How does “Unfriend Finder” work?
Unfriend Finder will alert you when people you have previously been friends with deactivated their account or have removed you from their friends lists.
But first of course, you need to install the script. You can find it at Userscripts.org. If you are using Google Chrome all you need to do is click the green “Install” button and you are ready to go. If you are using Firefox then you will have to install the Greasemonkey add-on first.
As you can see from the screenshots below I am using Google Chrome.
Step one: Get the “Unfriend Finder” extension and install it on your browser.
Step two: Go to Facebook and check it out.
As you can see from the image below, once you have the script installed your Facebook account will show these two changes immediately.
1) You will see an additional tab in the top right-hand corner called “Unfriends.”
2) You will also see and additional link in your “Favorites” right underneath your profile picture on your home page.
Oh, by the way, if you hover your mouse over the tab you will see more useful info. For example the total number of your friends, how many pending friend requests you have and the number of “Unfriends” the Unfriend Finder extension detected.
You will receive a notification when someone unfriends you and a red number appears above the “Unfriends” tab. (Since I just installed the add-on there are no red numbers yet.)
By the way, you will also be notified trough your main notifications. (You know the ones that appear next to your message notifications and friend requests in the top menu bar on Facebook.)
When you click on the “Unfriends” option in your “Favorites” list you will also be able to see who unfriended you, together with the date and time they decided they didn’t want to be friends with you any longer.
As I mentioned earlier above, not only will this script let you know when someone unfriends you, but it also tells you when someone you were friends with deactivates (or re-activates) their profile. I think that can be very helpful as two of my sons just deactivated and reactivated their profiles recently. (Of course they neglected to tell me about it and I was wondering why we were no longer friends, haha.)
Another Helpful Feature of Unfriend Finder:
Pending Friend Requests
This great feature helps you keep track of your “Pending Friend Requests” on Facebook. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes forget whom I sent a friend request to, because I just get so busy. So, now I can check what friends requests are still pending, who ignored them and who cancelled my friend requests. (Although I can’t think of anyone who would ever do such a thing.)
So, there you have it. Check it out for yourself!
Unfriend Finder is compatible with Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer and translated into 65 languages.
If you already have this great add-on installed on your browser go ahead and share your experience with us in the comments below.

Ilka: I actually was aware of “unfriend finder” but, quite frankly, I have more important things to spend my time on then worrying about who’s dropped me as a friend.

Hi Ilka,
looks like a neat tool, however, I don’t need to know who unfriends me, just like I don’t need to know who unfollows me on Twitter. What’s the benefit for me ?
Be blessed

Hi Oliver,
Right, who cares. The only time I would care if it was someone I really value. I would want to know if there’s anything I did that caused that person to leave. Other than that, no, not really.
All the best,
Ilka

I use to use that Ilka but it would continue to give me the wrong information and I got really tired of messing with it. It would tell me certain people unfriended me when they hadn’t so I just couldn’t keep up with it anymore.
When it comes down to it what are we really going to get from this anyway. Do you want to go back and ask them why they unfriended you? Do you really care?
I guess I was just curious in the beginning and then it became more annoying then anything but if you really want to know, there’s always an answer.
Ilka to the rescue, great going girl.

Hi Adrienne,
Oh dear, that must have been a drag. Well, if it starts doing that to me I know how to delete it, haha. Maybe I should write a post about that, huh?
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

Hi Ilka,

It seems like a nifty feature if you really use Facebook as your main communication platform. If someone disagrees with me or doesn’t not like the content, it is their choice to “unfriend” me. It is very nice of you to take the time to find out about this tool to help other people.
Thanks Ilka

Hi Diana,
Yes, you’re right, of course it will be “their” choice. Really not much that we can do but move on.
The thing about these gadgets is, yes, they may come in handy, but at the same token we can’t let them take over our lives either.
Thanks for stopping by and for leaving your thoughts!
Be blessed,
Ilka

Hi Ilka,
Thanks for the heads up on this very cool tool! I had never heard of this before.
I know that there are things like this for Twitter and am happy to know we have such tracking specific to Facebook now too!
Some people do not think that it’s important to track things like this, but I’m one who prefers to self-evaluate and constantly improve. I think it’s important to get an idea of how our messages are being perceived by our networks!
Thanks again for showing us how this works! Fantastic job!

Hi Cat,
My pleasure! I’m glad I could enlighten you.
I think this helps too if you are focusing on a more targeted follower base on Facebook. I mean people can still subscribe to your updates without having to be your friend. So if you are really sensitive on who you allow to be your friend I think this tool would be very helpful.
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving your thoughts! I really appreciate it!
Be blessed,
Ilka

Hi Ilka,
You do have a knack of finding all the tricks of the trade don’t you Ilka. Ha ha
I have to agree with common opinion in the comments section and say I really couldn’t be bothered one litlle but when someone unfriends me.
In fact I wish that I could delete the vast majority of my friends and just keep the really meaningful people as friends and then just have separate business pages for others. This is the way it’s supposed to work but a bit difficult to do now when it all just fell into place by default at the time.
Still a worthwhile tool here for someone who wants to know who unfriends them Ilka.

Hi Marcus,
I do, don’t I, haha. I don’t know what it is. Maybe the Law of Attraction?
I don’t blame you for not wanting to waste your time. I just shared it because that search term keeps on coming up in the query all the time.
I’m kind of like you, I too wish I could unfriend the majority of my friends and just stay with a select few. But now that I posted how they can find out, I’m not so sure I want to do this, haha. I might get send some stink bombs, lol.
Have an awesome week my friend!

Hi Ilka Flood,
I like unfriendfinder but I don’t think we actually need it.Because we need not to look at the person who don’t care for us,so finding them will ultimately lead to negative thinks and this will depress us.So Instead trying unfriendfinder,we should try to build better relationship with our current friends.
