Probably The Easiest Way In The World To Increase Your Blog Traffic

| Posted in Social Networking |

27

When I started this blog about a year ago, I knew very litte about blogging. But I knew, in order to grow my business, I had to have one central hub or nerve center to send all my traffic to. I also knew that I had to provide my visitors with good quality content so they would come back for more.

So I did all that but still, until just recently it was slow going. My Alexa ranking was hovering around the 2 to 3 million. Not really what I hoped for. Clearly, I needed some major help in order to increase my blog traffic.

Everything changed when I stumbled on to Jason Better’s blog.

Hanging out with the Better Bunch I learned some very valuable tricks. My traffic increased and my Alexa ranking dropped considerably. (To know what your Alexa rank is and to actually be able to watch it drop daily you need a little browser plugin called “Alexa Sparky.” – Thanks, Wayne Vassell! for the reminder.)

I also found out about a TINY button who delivers a VERY BIG punch.

I’m talking about the “REPLY” button on your blog comments. Funny, I had never noticed it before. I had left comments on blogs I had bookmarked to follow, but never had I actually “replied” to any of them. Well, I had never even replied to the comments people left on my own blog. (Sorry guys! It really wasn’t on purpose.)

As funny (or elementary) as it may seem, this tiny little button opened a whole new world for me. I have used it a lot lately and guess what … My Alexa ranking dropped down to 328,108 (as of today).

But what’s even more important, I have been building relationships with some of the greatest network marketers out there.

By blogging regularly and visiting and commenting on other people’s blogs I am learning something new every single day.

So before I go, I want to share a few tips if you are blogging for your business.

  • Update your blog on a regular basis and give something of value to keep visitors coming back.
  • Make sure you have comments enabled so people can ‘talk’ to you and leave their thoughts about your blog post.
  • Leave comments on other people’s blogs. When you do, again, give value. Remember, you will gain a backlink to your own blog.
  • Get your face out there. Remember the KNOW, LIKE, TRUST. You can get your avatar on Gravatar.com
  • Provide a means for people to bookmark and share your blog posts.

If you have any other tips or tricks, or if you would like to share what works for you, we would love to hear about it in the comment box below.

Oh, and by the way, if you like this post, please don’t forget to re-tweet it or share it on Facebook.

Ilka,

You amaze me! Your ability to take a lesson that you have learned and turn it into a lesson for others to pull from is uncanny.

Thank you for this incredible piece of the puzzle. As you know, I am a blogging student and writer and have been struggling with this exact problem. I know I have visitors, I receive comments, but I’m not sure if they return or if it is converting to sales.

Tomorrow is a new day, and I plan on taking this tip and implementing it into my blog right away, thanks.

Hi Carla,

Thank you for your kind words!

I felt the need to share what I learned because I thought, well, if I didn’t know these things then there surely will be others as well.

There are so many different pieces to the blogging puzzle. But getting traffic is a major one. Without traffic, nobody gets to read your blog.

Oh, and by the way, if you implement the tips above, you will know for sure if your visitors come back :)

Make it a great day!

Good Morning Ilka!

I had the same thing happen to me. It’s amazing how stumbling across a group of people, interacting, and giving can drop that ranking. I’m just behind you girl! LOL

Make it a Great Day!

Hey Ilka,

It is great to see you flying through the Alexa Ranks, as you say it is some powerful stuff.

The great thing is, it motivates you when you have a group of “blogging buddies” that you can visit and feed off.

As for the reply button – what a great feature! :)

Thanks for the post and the mention.

And thanks for the reminder about “Sparky.” What a difference it makes to know your stats. It gives you that extra push.

The Better Bunch – I like the term. I am proud to be a member of the Better Bunch (BB).

Everyone in the BB has their Alexa flying off the chart and it is great to see.

Your blog is great and will soon be in the 100,000s, that is not far off I promise you.

It is great to see that what you have learned you are sharing, giving back is what its is all about.

Great stuff

Whoops! Had to dig you our of the spam folder again, Dwayne. Sorry about that. Don’t know why this happened.

You’re right, everyone in the BB has great Alexa rankings. It’s because we are all “Givers.” Giving back IS what it’s all about.

Can’t wait to be in the 100,000s. By that time you will probably be in the 10,000s and you’ll have to install virtual traffic lights on your blog because of all the traffic you will be getting.

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement!

Have a great Easter!

Hi Ilka,

I just started looking at Alexa ratings that day Wayne put up the article about it.

I knew about it before, but didn’t take the time to actually check it out. (Thanks Wayne!)

I’m glad you brought it up here because it is important, and knowing how to get your rating down is SOOOO helpful.

Great article! Good job getting your rating down!

Have a great weekend!

Hey Ilka,

I have been watching your Alexa Ranking and it has been dropping quite a bit. :)

The more great quality you post on a daily basis. The more traffic you are generating and Alexa is dropping as well.

Ilka, some very insight comments and really we all get complacent or have much on our table. We should ensure that we sit down at the end of the day and review or put our days in perspective, thanks again.

Hi Ilka,
I found your blog post because James Poindexter shared it on FaceBook! I’ve had my own blog since November. The way I get people to my blog is from social networks as part of my welcome message. I send them to my “donkey” story. Most people read it and leave a reply. Here’s my donkey story http://sueknapstein.com/donkey/49. I will take your advice and start using the reply button. Thanks for all the helpful information on the easiest way to in the world to increase your blog traffic.

Hi Sue,

That’s a great idea! Hadn’t thought of it, but sure can see how that would work as far as increasing your blog traffic.

I do love life lessons also and I had come across the “Donkey in the Well” before. What a beautiful story!

Thanks for dropping by and sharing it!

Have a wonderful week!

Hey Ilka,

I am another proud member of the Better Bunch. It’s funny how just letting people get to know you in any situation makes a difference.

All you needed was nudge to get people over here. They keep coming back because you are a good writer.

The Better Bunch is catching on. Gotta love it.

Your are definetly “Enlightening” :) .

I have to agree on every point you have made because I started tracking my info 3/1/2010 when my blog was ranked 15 million on Alexa and around 5mil in the US.
As of today, I was 761,276 on Alexa and 80,085.
Jason’s blog has put me in touch with leaders like you Ilka and others (Josh, Twila, Derrick & Monique, Dwayne, Susanna, Wayne, Chris, Eric, Jerome ) just to name a few from Day 1. I end up learning from their blogs and meeting more people. Marcus B. has it right when he describes the “Tribe” because we are like spiderwebs connecting within and spreading all over.
As always, great info.

Have a great day :)

WOW! Your Alexa ‘down slide’ is absolutely awesome! Congratulations!

Don’t you just love the “Better Bunch.” They are such great and giving people.

Don’t forget now, that a big part of your success is due to the fact, that you put immediately into action what you’ve learned from those leaders.

I’ve been watching you, Tommy, and you are doing absolutely awesome. Keep it up!

Have a great week!

Hey Ilka,
There’s a story … of a man name Better… who was dreaming of 1,000 … Never mind. My brain went blank on me.

You have a nice blog here and some really, really good content. You need to get an opt-in on the top of your page. As your Alexa drops, you will start getting tons of traffic from people you don’t know. Right now you can’t continue the conversation.

By the way, love your entry. You’ve got a great sense of humor and your comments always make me crack up. You just have such an unique way of putting things.

Have an incredible week!
