Which Way Is Success?

If you have been following my blog for a while you may have noticed that I like to tell stories to illustrate a point. Well, here’s another one …
Which Way Is Success?
A man meets a successful person on the road and asks him, “which way is success?”
The successful person speaks no words, he just points to a place off in the distance.
The man, thrilled by the prospect of quick and easy success, rushes off in the direction he was sent to. Suddenly, there comes a loud “SPLAT.” After a while, the man comes limping back, tattered and stunned, assuming he must have misunderstood the message. He repeats his question to the successful person, who again silently points in the same direction.
The man obediently walks off once more. This time the “SPLAT” is deafening, and when the man crawls back, he is bloodied, broken, tattered and very irate. “I asked you which way is success,” he screams at the successful man. “I followed the direction you indicated. And all I got was knocked down. No more pointing! Talk!”
Only then does the successful person speak: Success IS that way. Just a little PAST splat. (Original author unknown)
How often do we give up too soon? If we only had pushed a little harder; gave it a little more effort; dusted ourselves off and tried again after we were knocked down; where would we be today?
Success doesn’t come easy. If anyone ever told you it does, they haven’t been telling you the truth. There’s no such thing as “Easy Street.” The road to success is bumpy and littered with obstacles.
Ask any leader in the industry and they will tell you they have been bloodied, broken and tattered many times. But they always got up again and went past “SPLAT” one more time.
I too, found myself nose down in the dirt many times. Quitting was never an option looking at the alternative.
“Quitters never win and winners never quit!”
How about you? Found yourself with bloody knees once or twice? Or maybe even more often? Share your thoughts with us in the comment box.
To Your Success,
Ilka Flood
P.S. As always, if you liked this post, tweet it or share it with your friends on Facebook. Thank you!

Hey Ilka,
My knees are bloody and it will NEVER stop me.
.
I see the sunshine on the other side of the mountain. The mountain tries to swallow up that sunshine and I keep on pushing up to see the promise land.
I will not stop until I have MADE MY MARK AND CONQUERED

I love your stories Ilka! You always relate them so well.
You are right, nothing comes easy even though it may appear that some people get all of the breaks. It’s just because they went a little farther past splat!
Have a great evening,

Hey Ilka!
Nice Post! I can say that I have definitely attended the school of hard knocks for many years and came out bloody a lot of time. You’re right though, quitting is never an option.
The way I see it, you will be bloody even if you decide to do nothing and play it safe. Regret is much more painful that giving it all you got.

Hi Melisa,
A lot of us went to the same school, lol. In this industry the learning never ends … unless you end it.
You and Ken have an awesome evening!

Thanks, Jerome! Yeah, I love stories. Maybe it has to do with English not being my first language. When things are put into a story I can understand, comprehend and remember it better. So I think maybe my readers do too
Have an awesome evening!

Hi Ilka,
How true that story is… I have to go with Dwayne here. I’m allergic to quitting too.
Hmm, I was about to give an example, but I might save it for a blog post, otherwise this comment could get long.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Ha, Susanna, that doesn’t surprise me at all. All great leaders are allergic to quitting and you are certainly one of them.
Can’t wait to read your post.
Have an awesome day!

Great story, I know that people give up way to easily. This is the way that the world has ended up, we also have become an entitlement world, we think we are owed everything. Thank you for the refreshing story!

Hi Robert,
Thanks for stopping by! It’s very nice to meet you.
Yes, it’s sad, but it happens a lot. And what makes it even worse is, that people often quit JUST before they would have hit a breakthrough.
Have a fabulous weekend!

Hello Ilka,
Thanks for sharing a story with real life applications. The articles shows a clear view but a little to scary to have a bloody knees or maybe not that bad if I go back to childish years and remember for what the price of knees was paid…-was worth it…
Thanks for sharing!
Respect,

Hi Slavik,
Thanks for stopping by my home and leaving me your thoughts! It’s very nice to meet you.
We pay the price for everything in life … as well as business … eventually. There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
Is the price worth it? Well, I sure hope so
Have a fabulous weekend!

Staying the course – sounds so easy, yet so difficult to do!
Great post, Ilka, to remind us that we need to stay the course if we hope to see success.

Hi Ana,
Thanks for dropping in!
They say it’s darkest just before dawn. So yes, if we want to see success we will have to stay the course.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Ilka, I am so glad I visited your blog to read this post – what a great story! Without delving too deep into it…I can certainly relate to it personally.
I have a small sign in a flower box at my front door which reads – “A Winner Is A Dreamer Who NEVER Quits”, that I get to read every time I leave my home & return.
Keep theses fantastic stories coming.
Thank you, Michael

Hi Kiaran,
Thanks for stopping by! It’s very nice to meet you.
Yes, Splat is very familiar to me as well. This industry definitely has a learning curve. But the rewards outweigh all the cuts and bruises.
Have an awesome week!
