Knowing Your Network Marketing Numbers Can Save You A Lot of Frustration
Many new networkers get frustrated because they don’t know their numbers. But knowing them has a lot to do with their success in network marketing.
If you are just starting out in the network marketing industry (or in your new home business) you must know your numbers.
Realize that your numbers will be lower than someone else’s who has been working in the industry for a while.
Don’t compare yourself to your sponsor, or other people in your company.
This will only get you discouraged and frustrated, because most likely you won’t be having the same results.
Just like with any other profession there is a learning curve in network marketing also.
There is a lot to learn and things change on almost a daily basis. It takes practice to get better.
Now let’s look at some numbers …
Let’s say your sponsor has a closing rate of 5/10 which means out of 10 people he talks and shows the business to, five will join with him.
If you are brand new, you can’t expect the same rate of success.
You may have to talk to 20, 30 or more prospects before someone joins you. But if you know your numbers then that’s no problem. Then you know that you have to talk to that many people before you will enroll a new business partner. (By the way, a lot of times it’s easier to get customers vs business partners. So you might want to keep that in the back of your mind.)
The more people you talk to the better your numbers will get.
Don’t worry your network marketing prospecting skills will get better over time. Remember, practice makes better.
To Your Success,
Ilka Flood

Hi Ilka,
Knowing the numbers is really important. When I work with new distributors, we figure out their goals and how much they would like to earn.
From this we are able to figure out the numbers. Sometimes it’s a shock, but it’s much better knowing what they have to get to rather than just saying I want X.
Really great post.

Hi Ilka,
Yes, knowing the numbers really helps. I know with some companies it’s kind of hard to figure out what you have to do in order to earn a certain amount of money.
But at least you should be able to know how many people you need to talk to in order to enroll someone… Because that’s were it all starts
Make it a great day!

Hi Ilka,
That’s a great reminder for someone new.
Since I just switched from a party plan biz to more of a direct sales, it was important to know my numbers to be where I want to be. It was kind of a shock, but at least I know.
Now I need to get on the phone regularly to get caught up!
Have a great day!

Hi Twila,
I know (exactly) what you mean, by “shock.” Every company is different. Some pay better at the front end and some pay better at the back end.
But, most of the time it evens out.
Make it an awesome day!

Hi Ilka,
I actually lost a team member not too long ago who was enticed by someone in another MLM with some pretty high numbers. I explained to him that if he wanted to have the same success, he would have to recreate and take every single business step this man had done in the last 2 years to achieve the same numbers…what a disaster. He is now kicking himself in the “you know what.”
Live and learn…thanks for sharing this.
Have a great week!

Hi Anne,
I am so sorry! But those kind of things do happen. Unfortunately!
The grass is not always greener on the other side. I had to find that out the hard way myself too.
Have an awesome day!

Great post Ilka.
It is important to realize that just about everybody’s numbers are unique so you have to get out there and establish what these are for yourself. However one thing I constantly find with newbies is that they under-estimate the numbers they require to start seeing success. You always need far more leads than you think to get a YES!

Yep, I totally agree with you Marcus. Newbies do underestimate the numbers. That’s why so many get frustrated.
It happened to me when I first started and it almost made me quit.
Cheers and have a great day!

I agree with this as well. This is also the case with affiliate marketing. I think 1% conversion rate is so low, yet for some products, you will consider yourself lucky if you get a conversion rate that high.

Hi Ken,
It makes a BIG difference if you KNOW that. However many just starting out don’t. I feel for them, because I’ve been there.

That is important to know for a new person getting a business started.
Not only will you get frustrated if you start comparing yourself with other people. It will slow you down as well! Take massive action and you’ll be at the top as well.

The numbers mean everything when it comes to marketing. You have to know how well your marketing material is converting. You have to know how much your customer want what you are selling and you really need to know if your product is priced correctly, so that you can run a profitable business.
In small business, everything is in the numbers.

Hey Ilka,
Glad to see the comments are working again. I had a couple of posts that were coming up as errors and didn’t post.
Practice does make perfect. The more people you talk to, the better you sound, the more confidence you get. The numbers may be low at first but as you continue to talk to people your “script” will come naturally, and propsects will say yes more often.
Have a great one Ilka!

Hi Tommy,
Absolutely! I totally agree!
By the way, I used scripts in the beginning, but I always sounded like I was reading them. Which I was. Then I made 3×5 cards with bullet points and I sounded much more naturally.
Make it a great day!

Hey Ilka,
You’re 100% correct – knowing your numbers will determine whether you’re doing something right, or messing it up.
The more you do, the better you’ll get – it’s all about testing, whether you’re offline or online… thanks for sharing this valuable info.

Hi Ilka,
Oh there is no way you can compare yourself to anyone else and their success or lack of it.
It’s best to compare yourself to where you want to be, and then map it out backwards, to figure out exactly how you will get there.
Knowing the numbers is a big deal too, so you know what to expect.
Another great post!
