Use Tweet Old Post to Revive Your Older Blog Posts

Tweet Old Post PluginHave you ever wondered how you could revive your old blog posts and drive additional traffic to them? After all you have written valuable content and you don’t want it to collect dust in some old archive. The best solution I have found is a WordPress plugin called “Tweet Old Post.”

There are many ways you could get your old content back out to new eyeballs. For example you could use a plugin that fetches related posts from your blog and attaches them to any new content you publish. You could tweet out your older posts manually or use automated systems like SocialOomph to schedule them. But that still takes time and we are all very busy.

Tweet Old Post, does it all automatically for you.

You set it and forget it. Your posts will be randomly picked by the system and tweeted out to your Twitter followers.

This benefits you in several ways. It keeps your Twitter feed active with new updates and it also brings new visitors, new comments, new interaction to your blog. This turns into more activity on your blog which in turn is seen favorable by the search engines resulting in higher rankings. So it’s really a win-win situation. (There is a lot of chatter about Google starting to include social media into their algorithm.)

Tweet Old Post’s top features….

  • You can set a custom tweet prefix. If set, it will show as: “{tweet prefix}: {post title}… {url}
  • Add post data to tweet. If set, it will show as: “{tweet prefix}: {post title}- {content}… {url}
  • You can choose to have the plugin fetch a URL from a custom field or let it generate a shortened URL from the post link. You can even choose which URL shortener service you would like to use.
  • You have the option to add hashtags. (Hashtags are used to categorize tweets around certain topics on Twitter.)
  • You can choose the interval between tweets, the minimum and maximum age of the post.
  • You can even choose which categories to tweet from and which to exclude. And if there are posts you’d rather not re-tweet you can choose to exclude those as well.

Tweet Old Post is very easy to set up…

It is also highly customizable as it lets you decide what you want tweeted and when.

You can get the Tweet Old Post plugin by going to Plugins >>> Add New and searching for “Tweet Old Post”  when you are logged in to your WordPress blog, or just click HERE to download it.

I have used it for many months now and I love it. I’ve seen an increase of traffic to my older posts as well as comments left on them.

Do you use Tweet Old Post already and what is your experience so far? I always love to hear your feedback so please share it with us in the comments below.

To Your Success,

The Enlightened Networker

Hi Ilka,

thanks for sharing this plugin. I have used it for a while now and it is really pretty cool. The advantage of using Socialoomph (especially in combination with ping.fm) is that it posts to several services, not only Twitter.

Take care

Hi Oliver,

I really like it too. Yes, to bad it only posts to Twitter. I am using SocialOomph as well. Ping.fm not so much :)

Thanks for stopping by, Oliver and leaving your thoughts!

Have a great week!

Hey Oliver,

I use to LOVE Ping.fm but for some reason it stopped posting to a lot of the services I’m a part of. I can’t tell you how many times I would deactivate and reactivate the apps, I never got them to work and their support never got back to me so I quit using their service. Not happy about it. Have you had any of these problems?

Hi Ilka,
hi Adrienne,

I experienced problems with the Facebook authorization and problems with posting from Socialoomph to Ping amd from there to the different services. But the issue with Socialoomph is fixed now. The FB problem persists but in most cases, it works.

Using Socialoomph in connection with Ping.fm is awesome because then you can schedule the tweets and you can create queues, even endless queues.

Take care

Hi Ilka,

I have used this plugin for some time and it works really well. It really is a mater of setting up and leaving it. I like the fact that one can also exclude certain categories of posts if you so choose.

Thanks for continuing to share the value Ilka!

Each and every posting I have looked over is really efficiently created and even to the point. I would definitely moreover prefer to express, not simply tend to be that reports good written and published, but the structure of the web page is great. It was effortless to understand through content to write-up and identify what I had been wanting for with easiness. Always keep up the good work Ilka you are carrying out, and I will be return several times in the near future.

I’ve seen a few people who I follow who have used this plugin… seems like a great idea!

I’m currently reviewing and updating all my old posts, but have been forgetting to tweet about them!

Probably would be easier to have it done automatically.

Hi Dan,

Automation is key in our busy lifestyle. And this plugin does it beautifully. You set it and forget it and your posts will be re-tweeted and out there for people to enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your feedback!

Have a great day!

A friend and I were recently talking about this Ilka… She mentioned though that it would only tweet her link and not her post title. Trust me, she’s a techie person too. Maybe she’s not using the right one? Do you think that could be the problem? I’ll have to send her over here and read this post. She might find it beneficial.

I’ve been thinking about doing this but I tweet a lot of other people’s things throughout the day and don’t want to overwhelm my followers. Will have to give this more consideration. But I appreciate you filling me in on how this all works.

Hey Ilka, I appreciate you! :-)

Hi Adrienne,

Sorry to hear that your friend has problems with this plugin. The first thought that came to my mind after reading your comment was that maybe she didn’t have it configured correctly in the settings. You may want to have her check that.

Adrienne, you have exceptional content that I’m sure many people find very valuable so I would definitely think about using this plugin. You can set the interval between tweets in the settings if you are afraid to overload your followers.

Always great to see you here and read your feedback. Thank you for stopping by! I so appreciate you!

Thought I would let you know that she said once she upgraded to a newer version it seemed to fix the problem. She had everything set correctly, I guess that plug-in just wasn’t cooperating with her for some reason.

Thank you for saying that, I appreciate that so much. I’m just read that we should support others more than ourselves so I would think this would have the opposite affect. But hey, I’m always a work in progress so I’m still learning what’s appropriate and what’s not.

Thanks Ilka, I appreciate your response.

Hi again Adrienne,

I’m so glad it all worked out for your friend. Awesome! I know from own experience, that sometimes there’s just a little bug around, or maybe I’m not holding my head a certain when I do things. Or maybe I forgot to hold my breath and stand on one foot, haha.

Just think, aren’t you helping others by sharing your great content? And wouldn’t it be a disservice to keep it all to yourself? Don’t feel guilty! Like I already mention you have incredible content to share :)

Cheers,

Ilka

What a great resource! I just switched to WP.org and discovering this plug-in is timely for me. Thanks, I can’t wait to check it out.

At the moment I am thinking about what to do with my Twitter account – because no one is reading the tweets – and I have more than 13000 followers.

Hi Volker,

That is really strange. I know I have clicked and re-tweeted your tweets before. I’ve also seen you featured in my Paperli a few times.

I just went back to your Twitter account and checked your tweets. You really have great content on there. The only thing I can think of right from the top of my head that maybe your followers are not “targeted?”

One thing I just noticed …You are not showing up in any of my lists on HootSuite. Although you tweeted today, there’s none of your tweets showing up. However, I just re-tweeted your “How you do everything tweet” (via NetworkedBlogs) and it shows up on my Twitter account and my Hootsuite “Sent Tweets.”

I will be doing some more investigating. Between the two of us I’m sure we’ll figure this out :)

Have an awesome day, my friend!

Ilka

Hmmm, I haven’t used it yet. But I will be looking in to it.
I think that is a key feature, though. Being able to bring a post back from the dead on autopilot :)

I have did it manually. It is important to have all aspects of your blog in tip-top-shape in the eyes of the search engines. I haven’t gotten anywhere close yet – but am working on it ;)
