To “DoFollow” or “NoFollow” that is the Question

Get DoFollow Backlinks

Enlightened Networker Joined DoFollow Sites

I bet, just like me, you have been pondering over the issue if you should set your blog to “DoFollow” or leave it at “NoFollow” as is the WordPress default.

To change your settings to “DoFollow” may raise some concerns about getting more spam. However, it would give some well deserved link juice to those who comment on your blog. And, if you have a plugin installed that combats spam, then it shouldn’t be a problem anyway.

As with everything there are Pros and Cons

My good friend Josh Garcia, who is very knowledgeable on this subject, wrote two blog posts recently that I don’t want you to miss. The information he put out sure helped me decide what was best for me.

Here are Josh’s great posts about “DoFollow” or “Nofollow”:

What Everybody Ought to Know About DoFollow Blogs

How to Tell if the Blog You Are Visiting is a DoFollow or NoFollow Blog

After reading this awesome information I went ahead and installed a free DoFollow Plugin right away because I want those people who leave comments on my blog to receive some well deserved link juice in the form of DoFollow backlinks.

So, there you have it, The Enlightened Networker is now one of the DoFollow sites.

So, without further ado, head over to Josh Garcia’s blog and read those two blog posts. And while you are at it, make sure to bookmark it, because Josh always puts out great content you don’t want to miss.

To your success,

Ilka Flood
The Enlightened Networker

P.S. If you found this information valuable make some noise and share it on Twitter and Facebook. Thank you!!

Hey Ilka,

I must say that this is awesome post. Not because you mentioned my blog and my post. You created a post using other people’s content and reference it, I received a trackback, and most importantly it flows.

Because of the trackback on my blog pointing to your blog, you received a backlink from it. :) Awesome stuff!

I’m just glad to see that you made this blog a nofollow and now educating others on it.

Chat with you later…

So, thanks again for your awesome insights!!

Have an awesome week!

Hi Ilka,

I’m now in the process of experimenting with a blog I created recently – think I’ll try the “do-follow” and see if the Akismet plug-in will continue to weed out the spam.

Thanks for your great info

Making your blog DoFollow can result in a flood of irrelevant spam, but not automated. Making them impossible to filter out using anti-spam protection. So I do not advise enabling DF for established blogs, as they can become an easy target for spammers and abusive users.

So, if I am getting you right, setting your blog to DoFollow is worth the benefits because the downside to DoFollow is offset by something like Akismet?

Best Regards,

Tim

[Reply]

Ilka Flood Reply:

Hi Tim,

Welcome to my blog! It’s so nice to meet you!

I am not quite sure what you mean by…because the downside to DoFollow is offset by something like Akismet?

Let me respond to what I think you meant. (That might be dangerous because I am “assuming” what you meant and we know what ASS U ME means :) )

http://enlightenednetworker.com/prospecting/assume-prospect-questions/

If someone takes advantage of DoFollow with leaving Spam, yes, Akismet will take care of that. And also, if you have set your comments so that you moderate them, you can choose which comments you want to approve and which you don’t.

(Also, the new CommentLuv Premium plugin lets you decide who gets DoFollow and who doesn’t. For example you can set it though the person has to have 3 comments approved before they get DoFollow. Or they have to re-tweet you in order to get that priviledge…and so on.)

But yes, there are definitely benefits of DoFollow. Mainly to your commentators. I love to to reward those individuals who take the time to leave me quality feedback.

Hope this answered your question.

Have a fabulous day!

Ilka
