How to Add Networked Blogs to Your Facebook Page for More SEO

| Posted in Blogging |

Networked BlogsGosh, I don’t know about you, but when I find out about some cool kind of ninja trick I get all tingly inside and just can’t wait to implement it and experience how it will work for me. And you know I will always share it with you guys.

So, what did I learn today?

Well, I was watching a recorded webinar with Mari Smith (you know THE top authority when it comes to anything to do with Facebook) and Mari mentioned that having Networked Blogs installed on your Facebook Page is really beneficial for getting more SEO from Facebook.

That’s when my ears perked up. Really?

Well, it totally makes sense as Facebook has an Alexa ranking of 2 and is the second most trafficked website in the world after Google.  It is also ranked #1 in the world for site visits for the length of session time.

So why not piggy-back on Facebook to get some SEO juice?

I had” Networked Blogs” set up for a while, but if you haven’t yet definitely, definitely do install the app on your Facebook Page. You will be glad you did for several reasons as you are about to find out.

How to set up Networked Blogs on
your Facebook Page

Registering your blog at Networked Blogs is very easy. Just go to http://facebook.com/networkedblogs and click on “Go to App.” Then click on “Register a Blog” and follow the prompts.

Networked Blogs Register

Next click on “Syndication” and publish your blog posts to Facebook and Twitter.  This is really an excellent feature as it publishes your blog posts automatically* to your different Twitter accounts as well as your Facebook Profile, your Facebook Page (or multiple pages) and Facebook Groups.

Networked Blogs Syndication

When you click on the “Profile” tab you can add a little bio of yourself as well as links to other websites. You also have the option to invite your Facebook friends to follow you blog. Pretty cool, huh?

Networked Blogs Profile

Last but not least you can add a “Widget” to your blog so people can follow you directly from there. It’s a bit tricky to find the widget on Networked Blogs. The easiest way I have found it is to click on the picture of my blog when I am in my “Profile.”

Networked Blogs Widget

You can customize your widget any way you want to make it fit in with the layout of your blog. You can see mine in the sidebar to the right. ===>

What are the benefits of installing the Networked Blogs app on your Facebook Page?

Well, the obvious one is you will get more eyeballs to your blog. For one, directly from your Facebook Page as a link will show up in the sidebar underneath your profile picture. And two, directly from your blog if you have the widget installed.

But…as I mentioned above, it’s also fantastic for SEO because Facebook has such great indexing.

*One thing that Mari mentioned and I kind of had heard that before…As far as Facebook is concerned do not set up your Networked Blogs feed to post automatically to your wall. The reason being is that “manual” posts do receive a higher weight…which is great for your EdgeRank.

The way you can change the settings is by going to “Edit Page” (top right on your Facebook Page) and then to “Apps” in the left sidebar. Find Networked Blogs and then click on “Edit Settings” (underneath the description) and then “Additional Permission.” Just uncheck “Publish content to my Wall.”

Now, I personally have it set to publish automatically which publishes my blog posts automatically to my Facebook Page wall but for some reason not to my Profile wall. I don’t really mind though because I would rather publish it there manually anyway. Once I get more fans, I will change my settings to manually publish there as well.

So, I hope this all is not too confusing as I know finding your way around Networked Blogs is not the easiest thing to do. But I hope the screenshots help.

Oh, before I forget it, Mari also mentioned that you can do the same thing with “Notes” at Facebook. Just pull in your blog feed into the Notes app. Mari has a tremendous world of knowledge where Facebook is concerned. No wonder she’s the #1 go to person. By the way, I’m signed up for her “Extreme Facebook Fan Growth” course that starts February 14th. Are you?

As always, please share your feedback in the comments below and if you have any questions I encourage you to share them as well.

To Your Massive Success!

Hi Ilka,

thanks for sharing this with this world. I had set up that before, however, I didn’t know how effective it is for SEO.

Sometimes we do the right thing intuitively.

Be blessed

Hi Oliver,

I actually did the same thing. I can’t remember who pointed me to Networked Blogs initially, but I just installed it for the sake of getting more readers. I had NO idea about the SEO benefits from Facebook.

You’re right, sometimes we do the right thing intuitively. …And that’s a very good thing!

Hope you’re enjoying a beautiful weekend! Want me to send you some snow? Bet your girls would love it :)

Networked blogs is pretty awesome. I but I just have it automatically post to my wall. I guess I’d just rather save the time.

My analytics show traffic from networked blogs, so I definitely agree with your recommendation.

Hi Micah,

There’s nothing wrong with having Networked Blogs post automatically if that works better for you personally.

It’s just that Facebook gives a little more weight to manual posts. But hey, you can always posts older blog posts manually on your wall that your fans may have missed or those you want to share again.

Thanks for stopping by and adding to the conversation! I really appreciate it! :)

Have a great weekend!

Informative post Ilka!

Though I have the networked blog set up on my fan page, but somehow it is not working since the past few months.

I really wonder why my posts stopped coming onto Facebook as they did earlier. Guess I will have to remove and do the whole process all over again. Especially when you say its great for SEO!

But yes, somehow I do get the posts up on my wall on the personal facebook page, instead of the fan page. However, the picture that comes up on facebook is always of another commenter and not the one I posted on the blog post. I really wonder why, and thus I just delete that presently.

Guess have to give it a real deep thought and follow as you mentioned by going through the process all over again.

Thanks so much for sharing:)

Hi Harleena,

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with Networked Blogs. Actually, I had the same kind of problem you have just the opposite. Mine would post to my Facebook Page but not my Profile. It started a few months back also.

Now, when I was researching Networked Blogs to write this blog post I clicked around on the settings. Don’t ask me what exactly I did, but now it works again.

Question: Does the wrong picture come up when you post manually or when Networked Blogs posts automatically? — If that’s the case I don’t have the answer.

But…if the wrong image comes up when you post manually then you can change that. For example if you were to share this post on FB by clicking the FB Share Button to the left it would automatically pull up the post and an image. If it’s not the correct image then you can change that with the arrows that come up underneath the description. (It says — “Choose a Thumbnail” and you can also choose “No Thumbnail”)

By the way, you can do the same thing on Google+ when you share an article or a post and the wrong picture comes up.

Hope this helps you. Have a great week!

To answer your question Ilka- the wrong picture come up when Networked Blogs posts automatically. When I post manually I can of course choose the right picture and that is no problem at all.

Guess would have to re-do the whole thing all over again and may be then things work.

Thanks all the same :)

Hi!

I agree with you that Network blogs listing is essential and also helpful for enhancing the traffic of the blogs. Perhaps, it is one investment, of time, that gives you good returns with zero percent financial investment. Thanks Ilka for the detailed steps

Hi Bayard,

Welcome to my blog! It’s very nice to meet you!

Yes, it’s definitely beneficial as far as SEO. What I also noticed is that quite a few people who follow my blog through Networked Blogs share my content on Facebook. So that’s an added bonus! :)

Thanks for stopping by and for your great feedback!

I also love Social RSS for pulling my blog into Facebook and publishing it on my page and profile because link links actually go to my website … Whereas other apps republish your posts inside Facebook. We get quite a bit of traffic from Facebook to our blog this way

It seems nice to belong to networked blogs. And retrieving rss feeds will be easy with this facebook page. My only concern is if it is safe with the blogs, who were being optimized with ads. It is because I am quite nervous in allowing such rss feeds.

I look forward to hear more thoughts about it.

Hi Ariana,

Not sure about your concern. However, since you can find ads on just about any blog these days I think you’d have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your feedback!

Interesting. I have this feature set up, though I have few followers. It just sits there. Hopefully there is at least some SEO benefit to it. Maybe as time goes on and it grows, the benefit will increase. Sounds logical.

Hi Brock,

You may not know this, or maybe forgot when you set up your blog with Networked Blogs, but you can actually invite your Facebook Friends to follow your blog.

Just go to “Profile.” (You can see it in the 3rd picture above … the 3 arrows that point to “Syndication”, “Invites” and “Blog Profile.”

Hope this helps you get more followers :)

Another great “how to” Ilka so thank you for that.

I’ve had it set up on my blog for awhile too but I guess at times I forget I should have written some posts about this too. I soon forget that not everyone knows how to do this.

I love finding posts like this since I’ve yet to do one so if someone asks me how, I’ll just send them over here.

Great job with walking us through how to install this on our blogs Ilka. You’re the best!

Hi Adrienne,

Thank you so much for your kind words! They are very much appreciated.

It’s easy to do to take things for granted and assume others already know how to do this. I’m sometimes amazed to stumble upon people who don’t even know how to copy & paste.

With the internet still being in its infancy and thousands upon thousands of new people coming online on a daily basis I think we should rather assume that people don’t know a lot of those things we have already learned along the way.

Thank you so much for your feedback, Adrienne! Always appreciated!

I’m just in the process of setting this up but two issues:
1. Notes no longer works to pull feeds so far as I can tell
2. networked blogs will no longer post to wall as the Advanced Settings is gone

I’m trying out Social RSS but that’s crashing when I hit update.

Ugghhh. There’s gotta be a way to do this!!

Hi Mel,

As far as notes, I need to do some more investigating.

However, I just tested my blog on Network Blogs and it posts on my Facebook Page as well as on my Facebook profile. Did you set up where to post through “Syndication?” Because that’s what I just tested.

Let me know if you get it to work.

In the meantime, have a great weekend!

Do you know if there is a way (and how if there is) to specify the times Network Blogs posts to your facebook pageE?
