How Often Do You Find Yourself Saying: “I Wish I Had Started …”

You can’t finish if you never start.
A Chinese proverb says, “The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”
Even the smallest accomplishment has great value.
How’s that?
Because it gets the ball rolling and it sets in motion a positive momentum. Once you begin to create value, you easily and naturally move toward creating even more value.
Get the ball rolling.
Once your ball is rolling … keep it rolling. Keep things moving. Things that don’t move are dead.
Have you ever tried to move a boulder?
It’s very hard isn’t it? It’s like moving dead weight. Well, because it IS dead weight. But once it’s moving it’s a lot easier to keep it moving, right?
So go ahead and start small. And if you’re not able to start small, then start tiny. But DO start.
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” ~Theodore Roosevelt
Sometimes people say, “I start when … I have the money.” Or, “I wait until … the kids are back in school.” Or, “I start when … (fill in the blank).” Or, whatever their excuse. And they never do start.
Don’t become one of them. There’s always something you can do. There’s always some small step forward you can take. That first, that second, that third tiny step of your journey of a thousand miles.
Move a little bit further forward and create a little bit of success… every single day!
See how great it feels. And just keep going.

Ilka,
Love the analogy of moving a boulder!
You are right on about taking those “baby steps” each day. Soon you will be up and running!
Have a great week!

Hey Twila,
Thanks for stopping over! Hope you had a great weekend
Yes, you’re right, “baby steps” is what it takes and being consistent. I love the book “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson. It talks about just that. Have you read it?
Have an awesome week!

Hey Ilka,
Great work. I love this kind of talk. I also love that Teddy Roosevelt quote, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”.
Sometimes we don’t even realize we’ve let the ball stop rolling. We wake up just as excited about the day., work just as hard, but we’re spinning our wheels. Spending hours and hours working on things that don’t meet goals.
I hate it when that happens. Sometimes I look back on the week and think, “How did I work every day and not get a single thing accomplished”.
Here’s a great quote to add to your list:
“Wherever you go, there you are”. The dad from the Brady Bunch movie. LOL

Hey Chris,
Always great to see you here. Thanks for stopping over and for your kind words!
I have weeks like that too … But then I tell myself, whatever you did that week that you ‘think’ didn’t accomplish anything, still may have not been in vain. Because you were still spreading seeds; you were still working towards something … you still made some kind of baby steps in the right direction.
Love that quote. From the Brady Bunch, huh?
Have a great day, Chris!

Hi Ilka,
So true, if I had a quarter for every prospect that said they are waiting for money, blah, blah, lol.
I attended a training event for my primary opportunity last year and one of the speaker’s asked us to raise our hand if we ever came us with an excuse why we are not working our business. The entire room including all leaders raised our hands. There are distractions but like you said as long as their baby steps, we can keep the ball rolling.
I really enjoyed all the great quotes in your article. Have a great day!

Hi Tommy,
Thanks for dropping by and leaving your thoughts! It’s very nice to meet you!
I totally agree with you … And, I have to admit, my hand would have gone up too. Life happens! (And if it doesn’t we make it happen … hence excuses
)
Have an awesome week!

Hey Ilka,
Anyone who applies what you just said will be able to accomplish whatever they set. It’s all about getting started…Right Now!
The longer you wait, the longer it doesn’t get done. Everything I’ve accomplish was by taking little steps.
Chat with you later…

Hi Ilka,
Once upon a time I used to think like this…. “Wish I had started”.
My approach to this now is I prioritize what I believe will provide me results based on experience.
If it doesn’t I don’t sweat it and move on.
That took my quite a while to master though.
Does this mean that sometimes I don’t think like this? No!
In those cases I just have to remind myself, “Hey, you’re doing fine and move on.”
I liked your take on this one Ilka.
Catch you later.

Hi Jerome,
Interesting! Prioritizing what you believe will provide you results based on experience. Good approach!
But what if you can’t base it on experience yet? Would you still move forward?
Cheers and have a great evening,
Ilka

Hey Ilka
The Slight Edge is an amazing book.
One small step for man, One giant step for mankind.
Man on the moon.
Lets look at that.
1st Man on the moon started with someones dream.
It then became their goal.
Their goal was shared with others.
Others banned together to make it a reality.
1000′s worked on the whole process for years!
One man took the first step on the moon!
Little steps can have a massive impact!

WOW!! Love your comment, Dwayne!
Really puts things in perspective, doesn’t it? And it’s so true … Everything starts with someone’s dream.
I love it!!

I have modified that saying slightly to the journey to earning $1,000 a month starts with earning a single penny.
