Time To Take A Break … And Smell the Daisies

Ring the church bells, mark your calenders with a big fat red X. This is a historic event.
I have decided to take a break.
Huh? Really?
Yes, really!!
The last time I took a break was, …. uhm, …. I really can’t even remember. So I believe its high time.
All work and no play is no fun. Actually, I have forgotten how to play so I don’t even remember if it is fun or not, but I will soon find out.
If you are wondering if I wised up on my own and came to this decision. Nope! I had some help from my loving husband, who kept on hinting for the last couple of weeks, actually.
There were signs that I was running out of fuel. I wasn’t able to concentrate anymore on what I was doing. I was very easily distracted and all over the place instead of keeping my focus where it should have been. And I was constantly tired.
I did sit down and write out my goals for the rest of the year. However, even with a road map infront of me, there is just no more gas in the tank to continue the journey … at this point.
As much as I dislike it, I do need to STOP … and smell the daisies. I need to do some of the fun things I used to do before I became a workaholic. Even if it’s just for a few weeks.
The kids will be happy to get some delicious homemade dinners and Georgi will have a blast going for walks and fetching those new tennis balls I just bought recently.
There are also some books I want to read and some loose ends I need to tie up. I’ve got to blow out the cob webs and clear my mind for new and exciting things.
So, I’ll be gone for just a little while, but I’ll be back after Labor Day. Hopefully you’re all still going to be here.
See you then,

Stop by my neighborhood with Georgi… I bought some tennis balls and I still haven’t been able to test that trick out.

Hi Susanna,
It feels great to be missed
Have been enjoying the past few days just “hanging out,” but have to admit it’s kind of hard to stay away and not peek in what’s going on every once in a while.
I’ll see you when I get back. Have a great week!

Having a break is very sensible Ilka. It’s sense I should be applying too…. maybe soon… Have a great time away and look forward to your return.

Hi Marcus,
Now that I am actually doing it, I can tell how much I needed a break. Things are much more relaxed and I’m having the time of my life doing the fun things I used to do before I became a workaholic.
There will definitely be some changes made when I get back. I do need to find a healthy balance between work and play. Although my work is fun, and I totally enjoy it, it’s still work. If you know what I mean.
Wishing you a fantastic week!

Hi Ilka,
You really don’t need to dislike that you take a break, everybody needs it once in a while!
I’m giving you this “piece of advice”, but actually I’m completely the same… I perfectly recognize myself in the situation you describe in your post!
A few weeks ago I took a break myself, I didn’t work for about 2 weeks. First I hesitated wether I would do it or not because I thought I would loose too much time, but instead I came back as a new person!
You’ll see, your productivity will be higher and your goals will be clearer!
Enjoy your break!!

Hi Elmar,
I know. But I do enjoy what I do and because of that, I forgot that it’s still work and that I do need time to play and relax also.
You are right, I already feel a change and two weeks away will do me good and I know I will feel different when I come back. I’m already looking forward to it.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Hi Ryan,
I sure am. Already read one book and starting on another. It’s great to have time to read from cover to cover versus just a few pages at a time.
Cutting workdays sounds like a good idea. I’d love to have more time for being creative. I bet you enjoy having more time for yourself, don’t you?
Have an awesome week and I see you when I get back!

Hey Ilka,
Hope your break is going well. I think I need to follow your example and do the same thing. Tragena and the boys would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Chris,
Yep, it is and you sure should follow my example and just “hang loose” for a few days. Your family will thank you for it. You know, those little ones are only little for a very short time. Enjoy them!
Ilka
P.S. Stop and smell the roses … and while you’re at it, grab some for Tragena

Hey Ilka!
It’s nice to see that you are taking a break. Sometimes you need that time to unwind, regroup and actually have time to think.
You will have to tell us about what you did on your vacation when you get back.
Have a blessed day!

Hi Melisa,
“Time to think” was probably the most important as far as I’m concerned. But the “rewind and regroup” a close second.
I believe things will never be the same when I get back. I will definitely make some changes.
Thanks for stopping by, Melisa! Always a pleasure to read your great comments.
Have a fantastic Labor Day and great week!

Have a lot of joy and fun Ilka.
I do really understand you, I had a fight with my self Friday and Saturday – do I work to much or to little – The “to much” was the winner, for Friday and Saturday. I constantly trying to have joy and work, work together but find it hard sometimes.
So I wish you a wonderful time smelling at the daisies.

Hi Soren,
I’m glad you took Friday and Saturday off. I bet you had a great and relaxing time. We do need to “wind down” sometimes.
I’ve never realized this as much as right now. I have a totally different perspective on things.
Work, although fun, isn’t everything. Just as money isn’t everything either. There are other … much more important … things in life.
Thanks for stopping by, Soren, and have an awesome week!
